Christmas Gioia

By Nick Delonas

Boats and islands float on abstract water
As proper English passion over form
Visions of a humble muse's daughter
Whose smile makes old hearts of ice grow warm

Pastel skies and harbors of acceptance
Wash regret, doubt, shame and fear out to sea
Color dreams of patience and forbearance
Drift — drift away, drift away, drift with me

Christmas cookies scent amber air with cheer
Sweet molasses, ginger and sugar dough!
Children sing of Santa, snow and reindeer
Gioia waits to kiss under Mistletoe

Now off on puffy, dusty clouds are we
Drift — drift away, drift away, drift with me
