The Earthworm

by Nick Delonas

Off in a cloud
We sat and said
Hello, how are you?
Come share my bed
Smoke-tinted glass
Colors the dream
past a dim screen

Tangles of emotion
Still tickle the flesh
Orange sunlight
Through cotton-silk mesh
Past sights
Into day
Today's sight
Into yesterday

I know that I've been wrong
Who knows where we belong
Perhaps you should just stay with me

Walk in the wind
Past a yellowing sea
A lonely beach
For you to be
Happiness plays in the sand
Fleeing chords
That we can't understand

Arm in arm
Oiled black steed
Not what we want
But something we need
No different in anything else
Life's trouble:
Is becoming one's self

I know that I've been wrong
Who knows where we belong
Perhaps you should just stay with me
