Rockport Road Cemetery

By John Delonas

I never knew
There was a cemetery here,
So close to the tracks
Of commerce,
And the secluded hedge
Where we once made love,
Hid this haunted village,
Dead colony of a
Strange new world
In our midst.
It rouses the adventurer
In me--
A seven-oared argosy
Will take me there,
And cover me with a golden fleece,
And leave me
Where the seas of man
Cataract over the edge of the world:
To dance in the mist
Of history' s rainbow,
Watching the future fall
Into the pool of the evermore.
