The Right Song

By Dr. Vince

Two guys came up to him in an alley. They had guns. They put them to his head. They said, "What is the right song? We'll kill you if you don't answer correctly!"

He thought for a moment. "Bell Bottom Blues," he said. But it was not correct. The men poised their guns.

"Layla," he said. The guns moved closer to his head.

"Get off this Clapton shit," one guy said. "What's the right song?"

He became frightened. "Whiter Shade of Pale," he said. "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. I don't know. What do you want me to say?"

They looked at him and clicked their guns. "These are wrong answers," one guy said. "What is the right fucking song?"

In his fear, he thought to the deepest, backest part of his brain. And he said, "Willie Nelson's You Were Always on My Mind. That's the right song."

And the two men grudgingly withdrew their weapons and left.
